living past 80

Just a reminder!

Will I Live to see 80?
Here's something to think about.

I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age. (I just turned 77.)

A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?'

The doctor responded by asking, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?'

'Oh no,' I replied . . . 'I'm not doing drugs, either!'

Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks andbarbecued ribs?' "I said, 'Not much since my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!'

'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?' 'No, I don't,' I said.

He asked, 'Do you gamble, go on vacations or have a lot of sex?' 'No,' I said.

He looked at me and said, . . . 'Then, why do you even give a shit?

Michael Pollan bought and paid for???

Lying by omission?
Supporting the S 510 bill....the bill that will give
only more power to the federal centralized government
to invade small farms while making no mentions of
GMOs, the spraying of poisons on the soil and plants,
and miserable factory farm conditions.

Pollan's article can be read HERE.
He is a good writer, and he makes good points,
but he omits everything about big Ag supporting the bill
and the early gestapo tactics of federal inspectors.

This is big brother/big sister sinking it's claws deeper and deeper
into our lives, and leaves so much power for the elites.

A great interview that Patrick had with Dr Betty Martini
puts S 510 in a full perspective.

Check out the interview HERE.
Patrick shares his thoughts for awhile then the interview starts....

Mr. Pollan has sadly been bought and sold.
Instead of bringing light to certain important issues like
most beet sugar (if it doesnt say CANE sugar, its beet sugar) being GMO.

GMO beets...all the sugar in processed foods.
I didnt even know this till 6 months ago!
And Im kind of a nerd about all this, but wow...we are being
fed all these mystery foods and people that are presented to us
like Mr. Pollan give us hope but sadly leave us in the dark.

I thank him for bringing more local eating to light.
I miss the Michael Pollan who wrote about GMO corn syrup.
His work probably had the biggest impact in shifting the public opinion
against corn syrup, which has been largely renamed "corn sugar" since.

He's a progressive gatekeeper...bound and gagged by either fear or money.

Where will you plant paradise??

Just curious about what people are feeling about location...Have we considered a long term water supply? Neighbors? Climate? Geopolitics?Food Storage?
We are ultimately planning for NO electricity just in case...we are thinking GENERATIONS here..not just the next few decades. Who knows what access we will have to electricity 75 years from now? We will definitely use and enjoy it now, but we'll be able to get along very comfortably without it. Its all about thinking it out and taking the steps.

We have the Blackbird Food Forest in Phoenix, Arizona in the United States and also the one in Minnesota. I feel long term the Minnesota one has the viability especially in terms of water. To plan for 50-100 or even 500 years, there has to be serious planning around water and waste disposal.

With Minnesota, its dealing with the winter cold...and storing food. There is plenty of biomass nearby for warmth, but staying there in the winter would be a last resort. Ideally, something in a nice northern area from April to October and then something either tropical or very mild in the winter. Being able to escape the winter cold saves so much energy thats not needed to keep your toes toasty at night! Hawaii year round would be a wonderful choice as well.

Of course this decision plays into our relationships as well...will we team up with family? FRIENDS? Do we have what it takes to build a small eco-village? I think and know we do. Thats how we've lived for EONS and thats how we will live again.
Teaming up makes things move so much faster, once everyone can agree on who does what!

So...let us know...we are curious. Where will you do it? What sounds best?

Uniting FOR A GMO-FREE World!!

We need to drop our petty differences aside and unite together for a world free of genetically modified organisms. This movie is so well done, and I am so happy that I saw it a few years ago, the GMO scheme forces one to wonder
WHY are they forcing GMOs on us and not telling us about it??

Of course you can watch
it for free, but don't forget
to support those helping
to create real change.

$10?? A steal 4 the quality.

The community can be found HERE.

By uniting together FOR Paradise on Earth,
we can forget our petty differences and get on to living the good life.

Replanting Paradise!

The revolution isnt going to happen with protests and petitions.
Its going to happen with people like us getting into organic gardening,
eating clean food, and supporting companies with heart.

Its going to happen when young people dream of the Paradise Garden
they will co-create with their loved ones!
When mom and dad get into raising chickens and plant 10 fruit trees
in their back AND FRONT yard.

Join us!!
We created an online community for everyone to share
their ideas, photos, videos, and INSPIRATION!
We are setting up the ning network now!!!
I am SO excited about this, seriously.
Its my joy to see other people's creations,
and honestly I am NOT getting my fix. Help me out here!

We can choose to flood our reality with positive ideas
instead of negative doubts and hesitations...

Let us step into the next paradigm together.
We dont have to be physically together to make each other's dream occur.
Individually we must create (truly we co-create) our own space,
for we are THE ARTISTS that create these LIVING masterpieces.
but via our community online, we can help share ideas for our minds
and inspirations and good energy for our heart.

"The masterpieces that the great painters
created now collect dust on the wall,
the masterpieces we create live on
and continue to co-create themselves, forever."

Supporting Surthrival

(photo surthrival 2010)

The work of Daniel Vitalis and those close to him has
strongly influenced my health approach in the past few years.
From springwater, to animal fats and pine pollen,
he has continually brought fresh and unbiased thinking to the community.
Expanding far beyond the raw paradigm, Surthrival goes deep
into all facets of herbalism and represents Earth's most potent foods
from the four kingdoms of the planet -
-Bacteria (Prebiotic+Probiotic)

Myself and everyone in the Blackbird tribe are huge supporters
of what the Surthrival tribe is doing...we are creating huge change!!!

The deep gratitude I have just for being exposed to springwater
is hard to communicate - that action alone really activated something in me.
That beautiful water fresh out of Mother Earth is impossible to match!

A question about the Greenhouse Dome...

Hi I just saw your blog with the dome. I live on the border of MN and WI outside the twin cities, but I am heading North to superior or duluth area soon. I am building my own home (adobe or earthbag) and am interested in your dome idea. But as a thought have you considered installing a small home-made wood burner inside the dome for winter? You could keep your temp at summer ranges all winter.
For the exterior did you use the plastic sheets or glass and how did you frame it? Did you get a design from online? I work construction so just curious where you got the dome plans from.
In the winter, what do you grow in your dome?
Thanks for your time

Awesome stuff brother - check out St Lawrence Nursery and Oikos Tree Crops for great permie stuff...One Green World Nursery too has great stuff.

I DO have a wood heated stove...its attached to the hot tub! BUT...Im never there in the winter so therein lies the - I HIGHLY recommend this...all it takes really is scrap wood and when I warm up the water - its so much better than just a regular really retains the heat well and adds much needed humidity. is also nice to have it freeze over (it gets to the 10-15F in the winter at the coldest because the ground always warms up so much and radiates that heat throughout the night) so as not to confuse everything when there is only 8 hours of light happening, and if snow gets all over the dome, well...forget it - its dark in there. Better to have everything leafless and dormant until February. Things will start waking up in mid feb or early march, while outside its about 2 months later. I surrounded the dome with loads of soil as to protect it and insulate it better too...I highly recommend doing this.

I got the dome from "Growing Spaces Domes'' in Pagosa Springs Colorado. I got the 22 footer. I cover all the beds in the winter with logs inoculated with mushrooms so they can continue to break down the wood instead of being dormant outside, and since I have all perennials in there, I dont really grow anything else in the winter. I dont want broccoli robbing my figs of nutrients if you know what i mean. I grew cherry tomatoes in there this summer and they became so massive that they started to vine out and cover up other plants, almost killing the gojis and the comfrey. I wanted to use the dome to grow stuff that I couldnt grow AT ALL in minnesota...Id rather use that valuable space to grow figs and persimmons instead of winter cabbage and spinach.

I have regular kiwis in there, some grapes, two figs, three persimmons, comfrey, 2 gojis, 2 goumis, um....lavender, white sage, and then all the mushrooms. Doing the mushrooms is the best possible idea really...get the plugspawn at

I hope this helps brother!!! Keep me posted on everything - def check out those online nurseries...start planting your edible hedge around your property as soon as possible and get those logs inoculated! Cant wait to see what you do!

Here's a video from this summer...these emotions certainly
arise when living the permie lifestyle

And one from last week -
